Don't Skateboard Barefoot
Or if you do, don't kickflip.
Alright, here's the story. Short story short, my buddy, Tristan (A.K.A. T-Bone), wanted to skate but wore dress shoes to the sesh. I proposed that he take off his shoes and skate barefooted. I offered to do the same if he agreed, which he did. Ollies were easy enough to do, so I tried a kickflip which seemed like a good idea at the time, turned out to be bad (believe it or not). Kickflipping barefooted is not as easy as you think. Not because it's hard to do, but because it accompanies a lot of pain with each attempt. I stopped at three attempts and on the last one landed it, kinda. Grip tape being sandpaper and my foot being flesh, ya it kinda hurt.
Two days later the pain was worse and even I (a self proclaimed Dr.) could tell it was infected. So I went to a walk-in clinic and explained my adventure with the doctor. She sounded less than impressed, but remarked that "boys will be boys no matter what age they are". She gave me a tetanus shot, antibiotics, and left me with some words of advice - "this will teach you to do that again". Thanks Dr. You didn't chew me out and were super cool about the whole thing.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Pic of before the infection. I'll spare you, this time.
